Framing the problem is crucial to the success of any projects. In this phase I make sure I understand everything about the company, the market it operates in, who is the target audience, what are the company’s competitors and what is the the real problem we’re trying to solve.

Key steps
Know my end users
Start with user needs. Treat second-hand information about users with caution. Focus on user outcomes and design with data.
Clarity
Create structure and hierarchy. Give users responses to the actions they take. Make decisions easy by avoiding paradox of choice.
Keep the consistency
Avoid uniformity, but be consistent. Re-use well-tested design patterns. Use ubiquitous language to create familiarity.
Aesthetics
Accessibility is not a bolt-on feature. First impressions do matter. Take the extra time to delight your users.
Decisions
Every design project has to achieve business goals. After learning them in the first phase, I try to think of a strategy to actualise them. This phase is mostly done through workshop with you, the client. I’m a big believer of collaboration and co-creation.
My design decisions take into account human considerations, from ergonomics to cognitive capabilities.
A good solution has to be useable and useful.

It isn’t enough to run through a design process once. I learn from my users, learn from my team, and iterate. My process will mature and I’ll be able to run through it easier and faster on each pass. Being agile is to be set up to react to new information fast. That's how I will make it happen in a sustainable way for your product!
